Drumming Stability Balls

When i attended convention a few week ago, I got to experience a new item that is being put into physical education classrooms. It is using stability balls and using them as a drum. Using drum sticks, students are finding that integrating music into the physical education setting is becoming more popular and fun. I got to take part in this as a participant. i thought it was really fun, and it even raised the heart rate by having us do juimping jacks in between each beat. I think this could be a fun way for students to experience different activities in the gymnasium.

  1. I think that this is a great activity to have in a Phys Ed class. At convention i also attended a session on this activity and i really enjoyed it! I think it is a good activity because it reaches more students then just the athletic ones in a class. This activity can interest music kids as well as any dancers in the class. It also is a very good workout, like you said, it really gets you moving and the pace can be changed if a harder or lighter workout is desired.

  2. Yeah that was a good interactive way of getting involved. Another one that i went to go see besides that one involving new technology are gymsticks.Gymstick is a fitness tool from Finland designed to simplify and effectively combine cardiovascular, muscular endurance and flexibility training. The combines a light weight stick and resistance band (they come in different levels) exercise into one effective workout. Attach the resistance bands to both ends of the stick by using the attachment mechanism and set the loops under your feet. You can do hundreds of different exercises and combination movements. You can increase the resistance by quickly rolling the resistance bands around the stick. The combination of the exercise stick and resistance bands is a new way of combining muscular endurance and flexibility training. This allows you to improve your fitness levels safely. It was fun and new but i would use them for the upper class man levels though.
